For all the films made, stars worshipped, red carpets walked, and awards viewed on its soil, Los Angeles has all the makings to be a fashion capital. Since 2015, several high-profiled luxury houses such as Tom Ford, Burberry, and Saint Laurent, made groundbreaking decisions to bring their runway shows to the celebrity-filled market. Locally produced shows are also receiving increased attention. Unlike Fashion Week in other cities where one main player dominates the scene, LA Fashion week is known for its diverse productions, and its landscape has seen many changes. There are 4 main production companies in LA Fashion Week (in order of their inception time): Style Fashion week, Art Hearts Fashion Week, LA Fashion Week and Fashion Week LA; Each production has its unique appeal. From a designer’s point of view, the question we often ask is if there is indeed a market in LA. This takes me back to 2013 when I first saw LA-based designer Michael Costello’s sartorial creations as one of several designers showcasing at Avalon nightclub.
